REMINDERS/IMPORTANT INFORMATION/THINGS TO KNOW:
1. PRACTICE/MEET ARRIVAL TIME: Please try to arrive on time (we will start promptly at 6 p.m. with warm up laps. We only have use of the track until 6:30 and then we move infield). For meets please arrive at 5:30.
2. HOW TO DRESS: Dress your kids in warm layers. The weather is still very unpredictable and as the night starts to fall, the weather becomes much more chillier.
3. WHERE PARENTS/FRIENDS/FAMILY SHOULD STAY: Please stay in the bleachers or behind the fence during practice. In an effort to keep all kids safe, we ask that you please abide by this. At 6:30, the Junior track team arrives to practice and the track and field need to be free of friends/family so that the runners can properly practice without interruption.
4. WATER BOTTLES: Have kids bring their water bottles and place them on the turf. We will take frequent water breaks and it is easier if the kids do not have to search for you to get their water bottles. Make sure it is labeled or they know which ones are theirs.
5. CONDUCT/BEHAVIOR ISSUES: We have more than 30 kids this season. I try to give the kids a good amount of grace when we practice knowing some of them are excited and energetic. However, if a child is disruptive, I will give them the 1-2-3 and then they will sit out for 5 minutes. If they demonstrate unsafe behavior that puts the other kids at risk, they will be asked to sit out for 10 minutes and I will explain why this is not acceptable. If it happens again during practice, they will not be able to continue practicing for that day and I will have a conversation with the parents. (I rarely have to do this but it does happen).
6. END OF PRACTICE: Practice ends at 7 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). I am fine if you drop your kids off at the track and then leave during practice. However, please come back no later than 7 p.m. (or 8 p.m. on the later practice days) to retrieve your child in the infield. I am unable to search for every parent or bring your child to you because I have my own kids to rally up and I am still learning who each parent and child is.
7. PARENT RUNNERS/WALKERS: Many of you are making use of the time to exercise (That's awesome!) but please try to either come before practice to get your laps in or walk/run on the outskirts of the field and not on the track when practice begins.
Thank you for your cooperation.
